Question
swastika bracelet
Interested in value and origin of bracelet. Photo is blurry but a reasonable
representation of a Swastika in sapphires and one ruby.
AnswerThank you for your inquiry. These sweetheart bracelets were produced in the early 1900's and were sometimes purchased by soldiers for their sweethearts. Many of them ar lockets made to hold pictures inside. This particular bracelet was probably produced around 1900 when the Swastika was perceived as a good luck symbol. We appreciate your desire to place value on your item whether it is a personal heirloom or a recently purchased item. However, we are unable to place a value on your item. It is very difficult to work from written descriptions and photographs rarely capture a complete visual of the item. Values are determined by condition, location, current market and possible rarity or desirability. Values also differ whether they are to be sold to a dealer or appraised for insurance.
You might shop antique shops and auctions such as ebay.com looking for similar items and their going prices. You may need to have your item checked by a jeweler or other expert if you believe your item has substantial value i.e. gold or precious gems. Your local library and bookstore can be a good source for books on jewelry. Some shop owners are eager to share their knowledge and can be very helpful.
EBay auction can be a valuable source of market price and you can check the completed auction prices of many items from the EBay Auction Home Page. Just use the SEARCH box to input a short description of your item, then when the listing comes up, look to the left column for "completed auctions" and you will find both sold and unsold items and their prices.
I hope this helps you in your quest and thank you for contacting me.
