Is My 'Mexico' Marked Bracelet Sterling Silver? - Expert Advice

Question
I just bought a bracelet at an estate sale today and the marking is "MEXICO". That's all is says. It's a grape and leaf engraved sterling looking bracelet, but it doesn't say 925 or anything other than MEXICO. Can I assume it's sterling?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Kathy, Assumably yes but most Mexican silver jewelry assays out at about 40% silver and the rest alloy. A jeweler can tell better since I can't see it. Have them test it with nitric acid. a creme white reult will tell you its sterling and lesser whites to brownish will identify the approximate content. Good luck.
