K14 Gold: Is It Solid Gold? Understanding Gold Markings

Question
Purchased a ring of Ebay.  The description stated it was solid white gold.  I am wondering if it is.  The stamp on the interior of the ring is k14.  I have not seen this before, I have always seen 14k.  Do you know if this is solid gold.  Is k14 a common mark?

Answer
Laura, you caught me just as I got back from a short allexperts vacation during the holidays.

I have seen the quality mark done as both 14k and k14.  The general mark in English speaking countries would put the k or the kt behind the 14, as 14k.  The rings I see with k14 or similar "backwards" stamps are of foreigh manufacture as are so very many of the jewelry items sold in my country, the USA. Most follow the convention of 14k but some do it backwards, still indicating the karat.  I would believe the ring is as marked, even if backwards to our thinking.

On eBay, I always check the sellers ratings before purchase.  That provides and excellent clue as to the overall honesty.

God Bless and Peace for the New Year.    Thomas.
