Identifying Gold Ring Mark: Uncover the Maker & History

Question
Can you please try to identify the trade mark inside of a gold band ring. A jeweler has authenticated the ring as 14k gold even with no stamp. They can't tell me much else. It is rose gold with a gold rose and white gold rose and bird etched on the outside. The mark on the inside is a triangle enclosed by a circle with the letters "PAT APR 16 1879" around the circumference enclosed by another circle. Any idea on who made this ? Any help will be appreciated.

Answer
Hello Larry and thank you for your inquiry. I have not been able to find any information with the information you gave on the markings. There are quite a few similar marks but most have initials or other markings involved. The patent date doesn't tell much since the patent number isn't present. If you have the patent number, then it is possible to trace it. There were quite a few jewelry patents during the late 1800 - early 1900's. Since it is a Victorian jewelry item, I might suggest visiting your local library for jewelry books on Victorian jewelry. There are several books available for sale also and you might try amazon.com. One is written by Jeanne Bell. You may be able to find something similar. I'll continue to search some othe resources and if I find anything, I will let you know. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance on this, but enjoy your ring ! Sounds lovely.
