Authenticity & Value of Vintage Bohemian Garnet Bracelet (800 Ka)

Question

bracelet marked 800 Ka
Hi,

I received a bracelet from my mother-in-law (she is 70) which was originally owned by her grandmother. The grandmother, who was the original owner, travelled in Europe quite a bit and purchased many pieces of jewelry while there. I am assuming this is one of the pieces. Thru a little research I am relatively sure this is a Bohemian Garnet bracelet. I am puzzled by the metal of the mounting. It was very brassy looking and tarnished before I cleaned it and after cleaning it the metal was bright gold and I noticed the clasp was stamped as "800 Ka" (Ka is stamped in a box). Can you tell me anything about this marking or the value of the piece?

Answer
Hello Sandy and thank you for your inquiry. Your bracelet is beautiful. I can only guess that the 800 possibly means 800 silver and the ka - maybe a manufacturer mark. It could be silver with a gold wash or plate. I've listed a site url below that has silver hallmarks from all over the world - some corresponding gold marks. You might be able to match up the design or markings there. Just copy and past it into your browser address field and hit enter:

It is set up by country so if you know the countries your grandmother visited that would make it easier. It does, however look like Bohemian Garnets. The value would depend on the metal content and quality/weight of the garnets so that would have to be done by an estate appraiser or gemologist.

Hope this helps and enjoy your beautiful bracelet.
