Understanding Ring Markings: 14k, A170, and Carat Weight Explained

My brother bought a ring at a pawn shop.I was wondering what the marking meant in it, one side has 14k and then some kind of symbol and A170. The other side has 3/8. Can you tell me what it means or refer me to someone who can.

The A170 is more than likely a referrence or stock number. The 3/8 souds like the diamond carat weight.
