Diamond vs. CZ: Identifying Real Diamonds in Gold Jewelry

Question
i have seen a ring marked with 14kt and an anchor stamp. seller is not sure what the stone is. could it be a genuine diamond or a cz. thanks

Answer
Hi Katrinarose,

The short answer is yes. It could be either a diamond or a CZ. Usually in the past diamonds were always set in gold or platinum. Recently many mfg's have set good quality cz in gold. If the seller is not sure I would be highly suspicious and assume the stone is cz and worthless. Also check the quality of the ring, it could be just stamped and not real gold. A seller should know what he/she is selling or else they won't last long in business. Good Luck.
