Is This Diamond Ring Real or Fake? Expert Analysis

Question
The setting for the diamond ring is 14k. The facets that hold the diamond in are flat and look as if they are barely holding the diamond in which hints that it's expensive. But the diamond itself, I think is worthless. In the center, where there's that flat cut, the edges around it are worn and dull. Also, some of the other edges are a dull color as well. Can you help? Real or fake?

Answer
Hi Emily,

I believe your desciption of 'flat facets' are actually the prongs that hold the 'diamond'. This indicates unusual wear and the dull edges and white color indicate an imitation diamond substitute for diamond. Without actually seeing the stone I would go alang with your assessment that it is worthless.
