Irregular Periods & Fertility: Understanding Conception Challenges
QuestionHello. I am 26 years old an have no children. My husband I have been married for 6 years. My last menstrual period started January 11, and I feel like I will be starting again today or tomorrow (Feb 5 or 6). I went off birth control pills in November of 2002, but we used other birth control until May of 2003 so I could get my cycles regulated. My cycles were surprisingly regular (28-29 days) from the beginning up until October of 2003. They have went from 28-29 days to about 20 days, and just keep getting shorter. Also, we have obviously been unable to conceive, despite a clean bill of health from my doctor in February of 2003. We have no other special circumstances that I can think of, we are both healthy, do not smoke, drink or do any drugs. My husband has a daughter, so I think our problems conceiving are mine and are possibly related to my strange cycles. I am planning on going to my OB/GYN soon, but we are between insurances right now. Thank you for any help.
AnswerI don't see any abnormality in your cycles. If your last period started on January 11 and you have a normal 28-29 day cycle, you are due for your next period on February 7 As long as you have a period that is 26-29 days from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period, it is considered normal. YOu probably are ovulating around cycle day #14. YOu can become pregnant if you concentrate on having intercourse on cycle days #13, 14, 15, or 16, each month. If you are unsure, send me a list of the first day of your last 6 menstrual periods and I can tell you if they are normal or not.
