Answer
Hi Jody :)

I am so sorry to hear you are having a tough time right now trying to get pregnant.

However, I am really surprised that you say the ovulation kits dont work for you! they are very reliable, in aiding exact ovulation, so this is surprising, however like everything else, its certainly not impossible.

I will give you the best advice I can. Since ovulation kits have not been reliable for you, or the basil temperature method, you must look for the discharge that indicates ovulation. Its a thick, slimey clear discharge. I usually describe it as resembling an eggwhite. If you see this, then you no your are about to ovulate, or have just started. So this is a huge indicator, so keep your eyes on the lookout for that.

Also, remember that from day 1 of your period, you can ovulate anywhere between day 10-21. So you could possibly be ovulating earlier, or later. And this could be your problem. The 14th day of your cycle rule, doesnt apply to everyone ..especially those with irregular periods.

If you are able to determine when you are ovulating, its advised to have sex every other day. This allows your husbands sperm, to double, even triple to increase your chances. dont be worried about the day in between. Sperm lives up to 3-4 days, so you will already have sperm inside, looking for that egg!

Cramping is unfortuently normal for many women. There can be several reasons why ladies might have severe cramping. For some, its just the way it is when having their period. Because the cramps can be so bad, often doctors will put their patients on a low dose birthcontrol pill. This often regulates, and eases the symptoms of periods that are often heavy, and painful.

Other reasons why you could have bad cramping is because of endometriosis, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, and things of that nature. These conditions are treatable, but can certainly cause a very painful period.

Also, PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrom) is a condition that gives many women irregular periods. Some are late, some are early, and at times there is a complete absense of a period for months. It causes painful periods. It often causes weight gain, facial hair, and acne as well. PCOS can make trying to get pregnant extremely difficult. This is usually diagnosed through ultrasound, and at times laproscopy.

I honestly would keep trying the ovulation kits Jodi ..I really would. You simply have to be ovulating at some point, but the question is when. And as I said, you could be ovulating alot earlier, or later then you expect!

Also, just know that it can take up to a year, for a healthy couple to become pregnant. After a year, of trying with no pregnancy, is often when a doctor will then forward you to see a fertility specialist. From there, you will be given a full exam, and perhaps drugs such as clomid, to aid you in ovulation, and conception.

I dont know how much help I was, but I certainly hope that it was atlease of some help to you. I wish you the best:)
