Post-Pill Period Changes: What to Expect After Stopping Birth Control

Question
I am 27 years old, no previous pregnancies.  I was on the pill for almost 3 years, then discontinued about 9 months ago when my husband and I decided to start trying to get pregnant. My periods since then have been very regular (every 26 days +/- 1 day).  However, before I started birth control, my periods were quite heavy and lasted 7-8 days.  Now, they are much lighter (I only bleed much at all the first day or two) and only last about 5 days.  Is this normal?  Since they are regular, can I assume I'm ovulating normally?

Thanks so much for your help.

Answer
As long as your periods are coming every 28 days, it does not matter if they are shorter than they were prior to going on the pill. They can last for one day or five days or 10 days. If they come every 28 days, you probably ovulate on cycle day #14 and can conceive on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16. Try concentrating on having sex on those days, each month and you should conceive soon.
