Post-Pill Cycle Recovery: How Long Until Your Next Period?

Question
Hello, I am 27, no children/never pregnant, last period started 11/7. I just went off Ortho Novum 777 after over 9 years. I stopped the pills at the end of the pack and had my last period which was normal.  How long should it be til I have another one? I was due for it on 12/5 if you go by a 28 day cycle. It's now been about 38 days though.  I've also experienced no noticeable hormonal changes or weight gain since stopping the pill. Many people I read about experience both so am I lucky, or will that start as the medication continues to leave my body? Will my sex drive increase? I have never really seemed to have much of one. I also am married and have not had unprotected sex since stopping the pill (we started using condoms when I stopped).  I am going to take a an HPT just to be sure, but would a pregnancy even show up yet?  Thanks in advance for all your help!

Answer
The medication from the birth control pills has already completely left your body. It is common to have some irregular periods or even a cesation of your period for a few months after stopping the pills. Certainly, if you have not gotten your period by now, take a pegnancy test. However, if it is negative, don't worry. Give it a few cycles to return to normal. If you have been on birth control pills for 9 years, when you go off, you will revert to the type of cycles you had prior to starting the pills. If you have any questions, discuss it with your gynecologist.
