Delayed Period After Pill: Understanding Cycle Changes & Pregnancy

Question
I have stopped taking Yasmin (birth control)in November of 2003.  Since then my cycles have been 33 days, 31 days, 38 days and now I am currently at 41 days and still have not gotten my period.  I took a pregnancy test this morning and it was negative.  What should I do?  The last time I was this late was when I was pregnant with my first child.  With that pregnancy I took two blood tests and numerous home pregnancy tests before I got a positive result finally after two weeks of being late.  I don't know if I am late, I don't know what my normal cycle has been.  Please help, I want to be pregnant.  Thank you.

Answer
Hello Jessica. Well, this is a toss up I'm afraid. With your history you could very well be pregnant and it is just not showing in the tests yet. Because you were on the birth control, we have no way of knowing exactly how long your "normal" cycle really is. All we can do is wait it out. Be sure you are taking a daily folic acid supplement of 1-2mg., drinking NO alcohol and NO smoking or breathing around smoke. All the best- Cheri.
