Trying to Conceive After Stopping the Pill: What to Expect

Question
HI IM 33 YRS OLD I HAVE ONE CHILD AGE 13. IVE BEEN ON THE PILL FOR 12 YRS. IVE RECENTLY STOPPED THE PILL IN MAY 2004. IVE GOTTEN MY PERIOD REGULARLY SINCE THEN. IM NOT USING ANY PROTCTION DURING SEX, DID USING THE PILL FOR SO LONG HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS? I WISH TO BECOME PREGANT AGAIN, CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT MAY BE WRONG? THANK YOU.

Answer
The only problem with trying to conceive after going off birth control pills is that some women will have irregular periods. If you had irregular periods prior to starting the pill, you will have the same type of periods when stopping the pill. However, if you have had regular periods since May, when you stopped the pills, you are probably ovulating and can become pregnant if you have sex at the correct time of the month. If you have regular 28 day cycles (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14. You can ONLY become pregnant if you have sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16 each month. Concentrate on having intercourse on those days, each month, and you should conceive soon. Good Luck.
