Post-Pill Bleeding: Understanding Changes & Irregularities

Question
Hello, I went off the birth control pill about a month ago, and since then I had a regular period. But then 17 days later I had intercourse with husband and I was spotting, it went away untill the next day, and now I am bleeding like a normal period. I want to know how long does bleeding come and go after getting off the pill? I know periods can be very irregular after the pill, but is it normal to bleed 17 days or so after my last period? and does that mean that I ovulate everytime after the bleeding? I am confused, I want to make sure I am not haveing a miscariage?
it wouldnt even have gave me time to find out if  I was possibly pregnant. Thank you so much for your time

Answer
Once you start the pill, you will not ovulate after two weeks, and from then on. HOwever, for the first three months of pill use, you may have some breakthrough bleeding, nausea, or headaches. After three months, you should not have any more breakthrough bleeding and should have a normal 28 day cycle. Be patient with the bleeding. It is highly unlikely that you would have conceived if you are taking the pills every day. If you have any doubts, or if the bleeding becomes heavy, consult your gynecologist.
