C-Section Scar Pain During Pregnancy: Causes & Relief

Question
Hello..I am 38. This is my second pregnancy..have a girl almost 3yrs old. I am 7 months pregnant and going to a midwife group where I hope to have a vbac.
My question is that for the last week and half..I have experienced some pain on my right side of the csect scar..like a burning feeling. The first time was when I was laying on my right side and coughed..it was a strong burning feeling..but did not last more than a momment. Since, I have felt it at other times..not as strong. It is like an aching..burning feeling..especially when I lift up my right leg and swing it to get out of a chair. Should this be a concern? Does it mean I have a higher chance of a slight seperation or rupture of my uterous? My midwife did not seem too concerned when I phoned her when it first occured. I am still concerned though.
Thank you
pamela

Answer
You have "round ligament syndrome" which is caused by a stretching of your round ligaments (the ligaments that anchor your uterus to your abdomen). As the uterus starts to grow, these ligaments are stretched and you often have a burning or ripping-like pain on one side or the other in your lower abdomen, when you get out of a chair, or get out of bed, or when you suddenly turn while walking and someone calls to you. You can relieve the discomfort with Tylenol or warm showers or a heating pad. This does not interfere with the pregnancy and causes no harm to the fetus. Don't worry.
