Postpartum Abdominal Pain After C-Section: Causes & Relief

Question
Hi, I'm 27 and I had my baby girl on 6-02-09 by c-section. Now i fell mild pain at abdomen when am sitting for long time. What to do ?

Answer
Many women experience tenderness in the lower abdomen for several months after a C, and since your describe yours as mild, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Since you are almost 8 weeks post surgery, your stitches have healed and your connective tissues have knit back together.

Start doing postnatal abdominal rehab exercises, as these will reduce stress on your incision as well as re-tone and flatten your abdominal wall and develop core strength for lifting and carrying. Take care not to get in the habit of pushing your abdominal wall outward as you lift and carry your baby, or even when you are sitting for a long period of time, as when you are nursing. This is a common issue with new moms. Pushing the abs outward stresses your incisions and may increase abdominal separation.

Learn how to contract your deepest abdominal muscle, your Transverse Abdominis or TvA (your body's internal girdle) and contract the muscle to relieve discomfort.
