Irregular Periods & Potential Pregnancy: Understanding hCG Levels & Gestational Sacs

Question
I am 27, I have 3 children, been pregnant 3 times all live healthy births. My periods are always irregular, here is the last few months: April --nothing, May--nothing, June put on provera in order to start menses, took it 10 days and started on June 12, 2 days after stopping. July had meneses start on 25, stop for 8 hours on 30th, started again on 31 st, stop on August 1, on August 3rd again bleeding for 5 hours. since then ---nothing at all. Took home pregnancy test on August 27th, very faint pink line of +, went to Doc to confirm, they confirmed pregnancy even tho very faint pink line there as well. On 9/9 was having cramping very low in abdoman, was sent for B-hcg level and ultrasound, they did both u/s abdoman and vaginal, saw thickening of uterus, nothing else, B-hcg levels were 1858 on that day. 2 days later 9/11 Bhcg was 2653, another u/s sceduled for 9/16 again both abdoman and vaginal, a little more thickening --nothing else, Bhcg on 9/16 was 6258. I am concerned about the nest hcg, and u/s, doc says no tubal pregnancy indicated, he thinks the baby may have been implanted outside uterus. Cramping was gone with in 4 hours on 9/9 (i took gas x and it disappeared). I have no other signs of miscarriage or tubal or whatever. My body is showing all signs of pregnancy---breasts are very tender for last 2 days, no bleeding or cramping. what do you make of this? doc seems to think this is not a viable pregnancy. I am very concerned and worried.

Answer
Since the HCG values are steadily increasing, it indicates that you have a viable pregnancy.Since you had a faint pregnancy test around August 27, you probably are only around 5 weeks pregnant at this time. Usually we do not see a fetus until 6 weeks gedstation. I would wait another two weeks and retake the sonogram. If there is no fetus seen in the uterus in two weeks, then you have to consider the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy (in the tubes). However, it does appear that you have a viable pregnancy and I doubt that it is an ectopic. Good Luck.
