QuestionHello Dr. Rapport,
I am 30 yrs old, have had 3 pregnancies: 1st one was a miscarriage at 12 weeks (a "missed" abortion), # 2 and #3 are healthy boys (ages 2 and 4).
I found out I am pregnant again, and very excited! My lmp is 3-28-05. But I am very very worried that something is wrong. My first 3 pregnancies I always had severe nausea/vomiting starting at 4 weeks which lasted the entire gestation of the pregnancies. I was totally disabled, in the hospital a lot for i.v. tx, on zofran, the whole works.
My question: this 4th pregnancy now is completely unremarkable of any symptoms. I have had not a single sign of nausea, I'm not tired, no sore breasts, nothing! I am VERY worried that something is wrong. My doctor is on vacation. My mother thinks I'm being silly instead of grateful that God is showing his mercy on me and giving me a nice pregnancy. I don't believe it. So do you think this is very unusual? Have you ever seen someone with severe hyperemesis have a normal pregnancy later?
I appreciate your help,
Amber McEntire in AZ
AnswerAlthough it is, indeed, unusual that you have no symptoms of early pregnancy (nausea, fatigue, breast tenderness). However, there is no law that you must have debilitating nausea during pregnancy. If you have any doubts that you are pregnant, take a blood test for pregnancy (Beta HCG) and you will know for sure. Hyperemesis does not have to occur in all of your pregnancies.
