Low Fetal Position in Pregnancy: What to Expect & When to Worry
QuestionI am 6 1/2 months pregnant with my third child.
It has been pretty uneventful so far but the baby feels very low. And all the movement which is a lot is at the lower part of my uterus. Like the little feet are going to come kicking out. It's very uncomfortable and I was wondering if it's something I should be concerned about. I don't want to waste Dr's time going in if it's nothing but an active baby. But would like to be safe,
Any ideas,
thank you,
erin
AnswerHello Erin. Your situation is very normal. When the uterus has been pregnant twice before, it sags a little more than before and allows baby to feel lower. Your ligaments are not as tight as they once were. As your baby grows a little larger and gets it's head down where it should be, the foot movements will be in the top of the uterus. Be very careful NOT to spend any time reclining in a recliner chair for the rest of the pregnancy. This position encourages baby to lay along your spine and you will have "back labor"- baby will be in a "posterior" position- the back of it's head will be against your spine- can be a very difficult and challenging labor. Spend as much time as possible sitting "tailor style" on the floor with your back against the sofa or a chair- with your belly hanging forward as much as possible. This will encourage baby to take the best position for labor. All the best- Cheri.
