Starting Birth Control Pills: What to Do If You Miss a Day

Question
I'm just starting the pill, and I was told by my doctor that I was to start it on the first day of my period. He also said I was to take it at the same time every day. If I started my period the previous night, could I wait until the next day to take the pill, as long as it was in the 24 hours?

Answer
Hi Sofia,
I'm not a medical doctor so I'm glad that you have a physician to consult. I'm not sure about if you could wait until the next day to take the first pill. Your doctor is correct about trying to take the pill the same time every day. I would not recommend the pill because of side effects and risks to your health and body. You could choose abstinence or another method. The only methods I know that are not unhealthy are condoms or natural family planning.
