Questionhi, I am 32 yrs old, and my last period was march 28, 2005. I took a pregnancy test 2 days ago, because of pregnancy symptoms (like my breast being tender, tiredness & no period). the test was positive. (actually I took 2) & they were both the same. Now yesterday my stomach was cramping & I noticed I'm bleeding. This is more like my period bleeding it is bright red.
I am confused, Can you be pregnant & still have your period?
Thank you in advance for your response.
AnswerIf you have two positive pregnancy tests, and symptoms of pregnancy, bleeding can indicate the beginning of a miscarriage. You do not get your period while you are pregnant, however you can have bleeding during pregnancy for various reasons. If you are bleeding heavily with menstrual cramps, you should call your doctor and rule out the possibility of a miscarriage. If your last period started on March 28, then you should now be 6 weeks gestational age. A sonogram will confirm the presence of an intrauterine pregnancy. By 6 weeks, there should be a fetus and a fetal heartbeat. If not, then you must take two blood tests for pregnancy (Beta HCG) 48 hours apart. If there is a doubling of the results in 48 hours, it indicates a viable pregnancy. If there is a halving of the results in 48 hours, it indicates a miscarriage (spontaneous abortion). If there is no rise or fall in 48 hours, it can indicate an ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy in your tubes). If it is less than 5 on both tests, you never were pregnant.
