10 Days Late, Negative Pregnancy Test & Period Symptoms: What Could It Mean?

Question
I am 10 days late on my period, i took a pregnancy test and the result was negative.  i have felt light cramping off and on since a week ago and I have been very moody. I feel like I could start any day now, but it's just not happening.  Could I be pregnant?

Answer
If you have a 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14. YOu can only become pregnant if you have unprotected sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16. If you do become pregnant on one of those days, a pregnancy test will not show a positive result until 14-21 days later. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your next period. If it has been 10 days since you should have gotten your period, and a pregnancy test is negative, you are most likely NOT pregnant. The earliest signs of pregnancy are breast tenderness, fatigue, and nausea. Cramping and moodiness are not a sign of pregnancy.  If you do not get your period in another week, take another pregnancy test. If it is negative again, call your gynecologist.
