Exercising After a C-Section: Risks & Safe Return to Activity

Question
What are some of the risks involved with starting to exercise before 6 weeks, after a c-section.  I don't mean going crazy in the gym, I just mean light cardio and light freeweights 3 to 6 times a week.

Answer
Hello Gem. Light exercise before 6 weeks post-op is WALKING- NOT cardio or wts. Your body needs a chance to recover. One of the biggest risks is herniation of the incision- do you want an ugly bulge that will NOT go away? I hope you are nursing- and if so, rest is much more important than such dedicated exercise. All the best- Cheri
