QuestionHi, I have delivered my 2nd baby. I was 55Kg before start of pregnancy and move to 74Kg at the time of delivery. I had a C-section and after 4 weeks I have lost only 5 Kg weight so far.Can you please advise what exercise are suitable for me to loose weight, considering this was my second C- Section.
AnswerAt your post surgical follow up visit, your OBGYN will clear you for exercise if you are healing at a typical pace. After you've been O.K.'d for exercise, then you can start.
To restore your abdominal wall you should start with post natal abdominal rehab. These types of exercises will flatten and tone your abs, and develop core strength and stability in your body.
For weight loss two issues are key. First, you need to eat the amount of calories that you need to support your metabolism at your IDEAL weight. And this should take into account breast feeding and your activity level. For many moms, caring for a newborn is a fairly sedentary lifestyle.
The second key is exercise; specifically, burning fat as fuel. Depending on your fitness level, try to walk, briskly, with you baby in a stroller for 40 minutes daily, or at very least on most days of the week. If you are less fit, you might need to gradually work up to this amount.
In the first 20 minutes of moderate level aerobic exercise, the body burns primarily carbohydrates (stored glycogen) as fuel. It is only when this readily available energy source becomes depleted, to we "go into the pantry" and start to burn significant amounts of fat as fuel. Burning fat as fuel is critical for weight loss and long term weight management.
