Postpartum Core Recovery: Safe Exercises After C-Section

Question
I had my c-section last May 15, 2009. I would like to know if doing sit-ups would make my abdomen flat again. When and How will I start exercising? What kind of exercise should I do?

Answer
Don't start with crunches or sit-ups, they create more problems then they solve after pregnancy.

For you abs, you need to rehab from the inside out, and start by strengthening your deepest abdominal muscle, your Transverse Abdominis, or TvA. For details about this go to:

For weight loss, you need to get moving so that you burn fat as fuel, as well as eat a healthy foods at the caloric amount that matches your metabolism at your ideal weight.

Start fitness walking (brisk pace), with your baby in a stroller, for at least 40 minutes on most days of the week. During the first 20 minutes of moderate level aerobic exercise, we use primarily stored carbohydrates as fuel. It's only when this reserve is depleted, do our bodies "go into the pantry" and start to burn stored fat as fuel.

If you combine the daily 40 minute fitness walk with the nutrition tip above, you will loose weight slowly and steadily, without "dieting" or feeling hungry.
