QuestionI'm so sorry. My question was not very clear. I meant, AFTER I have the baby (a planned c-section) what are the risks of exercising before the "usual" 6 weeks. -------------------------

Question -
What are some of the risks involved with starting to exercise before 6 weeks, after a c-section. I don't mean going crazy in the gym, I just mean light cardio and light freeweights 3 to 6 times a week.
Answer -
There is no harm in starting to exercise as soon as you find out that you are pregnant. HOwever, we do not want you to do aerobic exercises because they shunt oxygen from the uterus to the brain. You can engage in any exercise you'd like, but remember that your waist will disappear when you get to around 20 weeks gestation and you will not be able to do much abdominal exercise.
AnswerAfter a cesean section, you have to give yourself a full 6 weeks to recuperate and heal from the incision. The body usually gets back to normal (physiologically) by 6 weeks post partum and, AFTER YOUR EXAM, your doctor will tell you if it is all right to resume exercises, sex, and all your "pre-pregnancy) activities. Try not to do too much until the post partum exam.
