Pregnancy Test Results & Gynecological Exam: What to Expect

Question
I am 33. No children yet. My last period was on the 2nd of February.

I have been trying to conceive for 3 months now. This month I have had several sexual intercourses around the time when my ovulation was meant to be due.
Yesterday (23rd February) was my annual gynecologist check-up. I had a smear test, a colposcopy and an inner ultrasound done. Everything seems to be fine, he said. Now my question is: if I were pregnant (one-week pregnant), would any of the tests performed show pregnancy or is it too early to show? Should I already rule out pregnancy this month?

Answer
If you have a normal 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14. You can ONLY become pregnant if you have unprotected sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16. If you did become pregnant on one of those days, a pregnancy test will not show a positive result until 14-21 days later. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your next period. If your last period started on February 2, you are due for your next period on March 1. Therefore, the best time to take a pregnancy test would be on March 8. A pregnancy test taken one week after conception will not show anything.
