QuestionHI
i have a question about my pregnancy. I had a period on the 11/05/2008 and it was 3 days early. it was lightish and lasted for 3/4 days. it wasn't a normal period. about a week after my period i had these really bad cramps that keep me awake all night, very odd as i never had pains like that before. I was due for my period and it never arrived. i had sex 3 times that month and none around the ovulation date. They were unprotected (as we used the pull out method). so i am very confused when i actually fell pregnant. I thought i was a month ago but i got a weird period. now its come positive. Was the may period a real period?? thanks for your advice
AnswerDear Sally
Actually, the issue here is to role out ectopic pregnancy rather than to calculate the duration of your pregnancy.
Atypical period (lightish than usual and 3 days earlier) together with severe cramps and pain as the ones you described and 3 sex events away from the time of ovulation (may thus date pregnancy back to the previous cycle)..all 3 criteria together raise the pssoibility of an ectopic pregnancy.
I urge you to seek a consultation and examination by your caring obstetrician. I advise a transvaginal ultrsonography as soon as you can together with beta human chorionic gonadotrphin level determination in blood for accurate diagnosis.
Dating your pregnancy is hard to calculate based on the info u provided. However, if proved to be a normal intrauterine pregnancy, serial ultrasound scanning in the first and second trimester would be the best to make accurata calculation.
Please keep me informed of your progress.
Good Luck
