QuestionI have a history of abnormal Paps. I have had a Leep, and a Cone Biopsy and after those surgeries carried two babies without any problems.
I am currently trying to become pregnant again and just got another abnormal Pap. As usual, it is severe dysplasia. My question is: Is it more risky to have another cervical surgery before becoming pregnant or can I wait until I have another baby to get it taken care of.
I would consider a hysterectomy after I have another baby because our family would then be complete.
I have an apt on March 7th to discuss w/ my OBGYN, but would love your input.
AnswerIf a PAP smear has shown severe dysplasia, you should have a colposcopic examination at this time (prior to becoming pregnant). If all is well, or if a biopsy shows only atypical cellular changes, or a low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion, you can defer definitive treatment until after the baby is born. If you have evidence of high grade lesion or CIS, treatment should be done now. I don't know exactly what the PAP showed, but I would suggest that you discuss all the findings with your gyn and follow the safest course of action.
