Pregnancy with Factor V Leiden: Expert Advice & Next Steps
QuestionHi,
I am 43 years old and never had a child. However, I am considering (some say I'm crazy). I am very healthy but I have tested positive for the genetic factor for blood clotting. What are your thoughts considering all these factors?
Thanks
AnswerMary,
Obstetricians are very knowledgable in your clotting disorder. If you meet one who is not, find another one who is. They will give you the appropriate medication during a pregnancy. You will very well be referred to a more high risk OB doctor called a perinatologist, due to your age and clotting disorder. Your doctor would know more of your history and be able to give you medical advice tailored to you. Hope this helps!!
