High-Risk Pregnancy with Factor 8 & Stroke Concerns: Seeking Support
QuestionI am 43 and have a high factor 8 - i am on aspirin therapy daily of minimum 350 mg - when in my 30's tried an estrogen mini pill and immediately started having mini strokes. I am also adhd. I am 3 weeks pregnant and my Dr thinks that there is a low chance of keeping the pregnancy viable, but more than that he is afraid that even with the daily lovenox shots I will stroke out. Have you heard of any similar situations or questions I can ask him because at this point since my hands and feet and lips are already feeling 'tingly' he has suggested a d
AnswerDear Sienna,
I have done a fair amount of research on pregnancy and haemophilia A or Factor VIII to address this. Almost all of the information simply addresses the risk of bleeding with procedures during pregnancy and delivery and getting a pre-determination of the baby's sex because male offspring of women who are carriers have a 50% chance of being affected with hemophilia.
It sounds like you have an extremely significant and high-risk history with your Factor VIII. If you are already having the warning signals of tingling in fingers, feet, and lips, even with medication, this is nothing to play with. I understand the desire to attempt to follow through with the pregnancy, but I also very much understand your doctor's concern for your own life and welfare. If YOU have a stroke, not only will you lose your baby anyway, you might lose your own livelihood or life itself. My advice on this situation is to follow your doctor's instructions and advice very closely and take it to heart. It may very well be a matter of life and death for you.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well and will have a good thought for you.
