QuestionI am 6 weeks pregnant, and have had pink, mucas-y spotting for the past two days, and light cramping (but I always cramp, I cramped through my entire 40 weeks with my dughter, and she was fine)
I had an m/c eighteen mos ago at 8w, and during it, the sac and everything came out whole, intact. A week before I had seen my OB and he had seen a strong heartbeat, but had seen a dark spot on the u/s that he said was old blood. I din't think about it till now, but could it have been a placental abruption?
I ask because if it was, is it likly to happen again? The doc has me on a baby aspirin and 200 progeterone orally, as a precaution. As I have such a hard time getting pregnant, that I REALLY, REALLY don't want to m/c if it can be prevented.
What do you think?
Thanks! Lisa
AnswerThe risk of miscarriage is 15-20% of every pregnancy. There is nothing you can do to caused a miscarriage and there is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage. I doubt that you had a placental abrution. It sounds like a spontaneous miscarraige. The dot that they see now, my be a small sequestration of blood. If you cont inue to have this pink staining, you should get another sonogram to assess fetal growth. However, if you are not bleeding heavily, you probably are fine.
