Understanding Spotting and Potential Pregnancy: A 20-Year-Old's Concerns
Questioni am 20 years old and have a 3 year old. my husband and i are trying for a second child. my first day of my last menstrual period was october 8th. 14 days from that would be october 22nd so we had sex on days prior to that to ensure sperm would be there when i was ovulating as well as having intercourse on the day of and after. Well i am late on my period now. however five days past my expected period i spotted. It was late evening and it was clear with red blood. it was more of discharge then like a period. Real different feeling. i had taken a pregnancy test that early morning and it came out negative. i am not bleeding or anything it was just that one time in the restroom no cramping or anything. Am i pregnant or could it have been a beginning to my period?
AnswerThe best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after you miss your period. If your last period started on October 8, then you were due for your next period on November 4. The best time to take a pregnancy test is today. If it is negative, you are not pregnant. Then, you have to assume that the spotting was the start of your period (even if it has stopped by now).
