Lovenox and Bleeding in Early Pregnancy: A Patient's Concern
QuestionI am 39, 1 child 15 years old. I was on clomid last year and suffered 2 miscarrages. My OB did some testing and I have anti-phospholipid syndrome. This was confirmed in May. My last period started on June 20th. My home prenancy test on July 17th was positive. HcG level on 18th was 30, progesterone was 17. 3 days ago on the 22nd I started bleeding and cramping but not as heavy as a period. Could I be micarrying? last time I miscarried the bleeding was much heavier. I this the effect of being on Lovenox?
AnswerThere is always a chance of miscarriage any time that you have bleeding in early pregnancy. I would suggest that you take two Beta HCg, 48 hours apart. If there is a doubling of the results in 48 hours, it indicates a viable pregnancy. If there is a halving of the results in 48 hours, it indicates a miscarriage. You usually will not bleed due to being on Lovenox. We use Lovenox throughout pregnancy in the treatment of anti-phospholipid syndrome and it does appear to maintain the pregnancy and prevent miscarriage.
