Early Pregnancy Concerns: Bleeding & Initial Doctor Visit

Question
Hi, I am newly pregnant with my second child. I guess I am about three weeks along as I was due for my period on Tuesday April 6th. I went to my doctor right away to get started on my vitamins and he gave me a pelvic exam and a pap smear. This was this past wednesday the 7th. He said that I bled a little but not to think i am miscarrying that it was from a combination of the pap and that I had a slight yeast infection way up there even though I have no symptoms. I didnt have any blood just a little brown on my underwear. My question is I dont know if its coincidence or what but since then on and off I have a brownish discharge. I usually only see it after a bowel movement (weird huh)It doesnt look like the brownish discharge I used to get before my periods, and its only a little. No pain, itching or anything. I didnt have that with my son (hes 5) so is that normal for some and what is it? Very concerned! Thanks for any help, Lisa

Answer
It is quite normal to have some bleeding following a PAP smear. It is also quite normal to see a brownish discharge in early pregnancy from "old blood" being extruded from the uterus as the fetus is growing. As long as it is not heavy bleeding (heavier than a period) you need not worry. Good Luck on your pregnancy.
