First Pregnancy
First Day of Last Menstrual Period - 12/31/2005
I am on week 6 of pregnancy. I had two days in a row where I had wiped after urinating on Feb 8th and Feb 9th but only one time in the evening on both dates, and found a very faint beige mucus - no brown or red
I had some cramping the beginning of the week. Had an ultrasound 2/10/2006 but it said that the gestational sac was only 5 weeks and 2 days 0.64cm and no fetal pole found - though I know that the dates of LMP was that correct. Beta count was 1692 on 2/10/2006, first beta count done on 1/31/2006 was 104. My breasts are swollen but no longer sore (the nipple was extremely sore last week but now just the breast itself is somewhat tender). Have had no nausia during the entire time. Does this sound like the beginnings of a miscarriage?
AnswerIf the first day of your last menstrual period was on December 31, you are now 5 weeks 6 dqys pregnant (counting from the first day of your last period). Between 5-6 weeks gestation, we only see (on sonogram) an empty gestational sac, but rarely do we see a fetus. After 6 weeks, we usually can see a fetus and a fetal heartbeat as well. Your HCG results are within normal limits, and you have not had any large amounts of active bleeding or cramping. It is not required to have nausea or vomiting, however, the earliest symptoms of pregnancy are breast tenderness, fatigue, and nausea. It is also common to have some brownish staining in early pregnancy, which may be "old" blood that is being pushed out of the uterus by the growing embryo. Don't worry unless you start to bleed heavily with cramps. Take another sonogram in a week or two. If you see a fetus and a fetal heartbeat you will be reassured. If there is no fetus seen on sonogram in two weeks, it may be a miscarrige or a blighted ovum. Don't worry at this time.
