Post-Miscarriage Progesterone & Future Pregnancies: What to Expect
QuestionI had a miscarriage the first week of July. I found out I was pregnant due to brown spotting on the 2nd of July at 4 weeks, 6 weeks past LMP. I was given a blood test on the 7th and due to low progesterone I was given Prometrium vaginal suppositories. On the 9th of July my HcG had dropped to 1604 from 1964 on the 7th. My question is this- Once I ovulate should I take the remaining suppositories to help with progesterone level in a hopefully subsequent pregnancy? or do you think the progesterone was dropping as a result of an impending miscarriage?
AnswerHello Dara. I think the levels were dropping because that pregnancy was not meant to continue and it had failed. Thus the hormone levels fell. I would NOT suggest using the supps. "just in case". If your next pregnancy was also faulty for some reason, preventing the spontaneous abortion is NOT a good idea. Most women have at least one failed pregnancy in their lifetime- give your body a couple of months to rest and recuperate before you try again. All the best- Cheri.
