Questionthis is for my 25 yr old daughter, She is pregnant due 10-25 and has been told she has a strep infection that requires intravenious pencillin to protect the baby during birthing of the baby. We have a family history of allergy to pencillin.can they use soemthing else?
this is causing some concern for us.
AnswerIf she is allergic to penicicillin, they will use something else (erythromycin, etc). They will first test her to see if she is, indeed, allergic. Even if there is allergy to penicillin in the family, she may not be allergic. However, they will not use penicillin if she is allergic to Penicillin.
