QuestionHi there,
Currently my elderly mother is hospitalized and has been for 2 mpnths for supposed rehab but unfortunatly it has not gone well and she has deteriorated. She is currently being treated for a number of things but the one that concerns me here is a medication that they are currently using and trying to streamline has cause serious delirium. What we arwe wondering is if this delerium is fact based meaning, that she is vivdly recalling an incident over and over and tells it to us over and over the same way. Would this incident that we are only hearing about in her delirium, be fact based. Would it have happened or something like it somewhere in her past.
We appreciate your asisstance.
Thank you
Cindy
AnswerHi Cindy and thank for writing,
If your Mother is delerious then she can be having hallucinations and illusions and will be disoriented; unfortunatley people who suffer hallucinations often talk about unpleasant experiences so you can not take what they say as fact. They can often say things like eveyone here is out to get me", "she/he is a bad person", "they stole all my money", etc.
Obviously I am not familiar with your Mother's condition and do not want to suggest that everything she says is untrue as she may be going in and out of orientation. If she is telling you about an unplesant experience, I would suggest you discuss it with the floor staff and see what they can share with you.
I hope this helps and I wish you all the best,
Margot
