Pregnancy & Hemorrhoids: What to Expect & Treatment Options

Question
I am currently 28 years old, this is my second pregnancy and in my 36th week, my first pregnancy was great, no problems. My questions is I have external hemmoroids but they are huge after I have the baby will they disappear? If not can I have surgery right after delivery? Will you be able to tell that have I had hemmoroids if they do go away? My current physician says they are not that bad but when I look at them I think they are bad. Everything down there is bulging out.

Answer
The external hemorrhoids will disappear a few weeks after you deliver the baby. They will not interfere with the delivery but may even become larger as you start pushing during labor. You should give them a few weeks after you deliver before doing anything because if you try to remove them surgically, you will bleed heavily. After a few weeks, usually Anusol or Preparation H will cause them to shrink and disappear. Most hemorrhoids disappear by the time of the post partum visit. Don't worry.
