QuestionHi, I am already a week overdue and yet have no minor contractions. I feel really heavy and my legs feels like they are going to break. Plus lately I have been linking some kind of yeast with blood. My first pregnancy was fine. Is it dangerous to wait while I am being monitored by the doctors, because they see that there's no problem with my baby.
AnswerDear Mai,
More than likely what you are leaking is your mucus plug. This is normal after the 36th week of pregnancy and the fact that it is blood-tinged is a normal occurrence. As the cervix begins to dilate and thin out, you begin to lose the protective mucus plug - sometimes all at once, sometimes very gradually over many weeks.
The very heavy feeling is probably from your baby dropping further down into the pelvis in preparation for delivery. This can often put quite a bit of pressure in the pelvic area and can also make your legs feel heavy or painful.
If the doctors have been monitoring your condition and your baby has been fine thus far, I would not be concerned about any of this. There is no danger in waiting as long as the baby's heart rate and activity is normal when monitored. Normally, doctors will not let you get too far past your due date before they begin to consider inducing your labor, but they like to try and let nature take its course if at all possible.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well and a joyous delivery!
