Understanding Negative Pregnancy Tests & Early Pregnancy Symptoms

Question
My last period was March 1.  My husband and I have been activly trying for 3-4 months now.  Have some mild cramping/ discomfort in pelvic area.  Have been taking Urine pregnancy tests since 28 days (March 28) all with seemingly strong negative results.  When can I confirm this to be true, or could I still be "a little bit pregnant" at 5+ weeks and not have hormones that register.  We can not afford a blood test to be sure.

Answer
The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your next period. If you have a normal 28 day cycle, you ovulated on cycle day 14 and can conceive if you have sex on cycle day #13,14,15, or 16. If your last period started on March 1, you would have ovulated on February 28, March 1,2, or 3. If you did become pregnant on one of those days, a pregnancy test would not show a positive result until 14-21 days after ovulation. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after your last period. You were due for your period on March 28. Therefore, the best time to take a pregnancy test is 7 days from when you missed your period. Therefore, if you were due for your period on March 28, a test done after April 3 is accurate. If you are still in doubt, take a blood test for pregnancy (BHCG) twice, 48 hours apart. If there is a doubling of the result in 48 hours, it indicates a viable pregnancy.
