Understanding Gestational Age Discrepancies: A Medical Explanation

Question
Iam 19 years old and have no children , i had a miscarraige on november 18th 2005 , only had one miscarraige.
the first day of my last menstrual period was 26th janurary 2006.
I had an ultrasound on the 30th of march which measured the baby at 6 weeks 1 day ,with a  heartbeat.
Going by my last menstrual period i should have been 9 weeks pregnant.
i seem to have normal 28 day periods. what does this mean? the ultrasound looked normal .but what could cause me to be 3 weeks behind? does a heartbeat mean the baby is healthy? i have had no bleeding or pain.

Answer
You may have conceived later than expected for a 28 day cycle. On the other hand, a sonogram is not very accurate at this time. Repeat the sonogram at 20 weeks from your last period to be sure. There is no reason to suspect that the baby has any problems.
