Regulating Your Period with Birth Control: Benefits & Risks

Question
I haven't had my period reularly for a number of months. My doctor had mentioned using birth control pills in a certain pattern inorder to induce my period. If I did this, what would the downsides be? I've heard there are sever side effects with birth control pills. How would I use the pills to regulate my period?
Thank you SO much!

Answer
You can start birth control pills and, within a few months, your period should regulate itself to a cycle od 28 days (from the first day of your period until the first day of the next period). If you have not had a period for several months, first take Provera (10mg twice a day for 5 days) and you should get your period within 10 days. Then start the pills on the Sunday after you start your period. There is no "downside".Thee are no severe side effects with use of the pills. The pills lower the incidence of iron deficiency anemia, pelvic inflammatory disease, ovarian cysts, cervical cancer, uterine cancer, colon cancer, acne, dy smennorhea (painful periods) and are 99$ effective in preventing pregnancy. The side effects are headache, nausea, and breakthrough bleeding. However, thesee side effects disappear after three months of pill use.
