Understanding Concerns After Miscarriage & Molar Pregnancy: 16 DPO
QuestionHi there. I'm 24, with no living children, and the first day of my LMP was April 24th. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant after a miscarriage and a partial molar pregnancy in the last year. I am now 16DPO and 2 days late for my period. My cycles are always like clockwork. I took an hpt this morning and it was negative. I m not surprised by this, but I am concerned about my last two pregnancies repeating themselves. When I got pregnant the first time, I was about 10 days late before I got a positive test. The second time, I missed my period for a whole month and the next month finally got a pos test (that was the partial molar). My concern is that there is something wrong with me that I don't produce enough hcg in the very early stages of pregnancy since the hpts don't pick it up. Do you think this is true? Any advice would be greatly apreciated. thank you!
AnswerThe best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your period. You were due for your peeriod on May 21 (count the first day of your last period as cycle day #1). Therefore, if you do not get your period by May 28, repeat the test. You have to give the HCG a chance to build up in your urine or blood. There is nothing wrong if someone merely takes longer to increase HCG in the body. Just be patient. Forget your previous history. However, when you do get pregnant, make sure that, when you deliver, the placenta is sent down to pathology to check on trophoblastic disease. Good Luck.
