Skipped Period After Switching Birth Control: What to Do?

Question
I have been taking Tri Cyclen Low for a year and found that it did not damped my cramps or make my period shorter like it is supposed to. I switched my prescription to Yaz and have been on it for a week. I was supposed to start my period 3 days ago and have not. I am also sexually active and have had sex since I started the new pills. Is it common to skip a period when you switch prescriptions? Could I possibly be pregnant?

Answer
Hi Ally,
Thanks for your question. I'm not a medical doctor so I advise you to check with your personal physician about these and other health questions. Either of the possibilities that you mentioned could be happening, in my opinion. It could be skipping a period and it also could be that you are pregnant.
I can't diagnose this but you could get a free pregnancy test by going to this website http://www.optionline.org and finding a free center in your area. Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and tell me what happens.
Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
