Microgestin FE 1.5/30: What to Do If Your Period is Late or Missed?

Question
I am new to the world or birth control. I am taking microgestin fe 1.5/30. I've read some reviews on it and heard its great but i'm still a little confused on the "inactive" or "reminder" pills. They say that you are suppose to get your period while on these pills. I was wandering, if I happened to not get my period while on the reminder pills (get it early or late) should i use another form of protection, such as condoms? or will I be fine to go unprotected?
Just a note: i haven't started taking these pills yet, waiting for my next period. so that means my body is clean of any form of birth control pills.

Answer
Hi Heather,

As long as you take your pills on time and do not miss any of the active pills, you are protected the entire month, even during the inactive pill week. During this week, your hormones drop enough to allow you to have a withdrawal bleed (which will be your period on the pill.) However, you will still be protected this week. You can get your period at any time during this week. You may experience some spotting or bleeding during the active pill weeks, especially during the first few months. This is known as breakthrough bleeding and will not be your period. You may also notice very light periods or even no periods occasionally during the reminder pill week. This is also normal.

I hope this helps. If you have further questions let me know.
