Switching Birth Control Pills: Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo to Ortho-Novum - What to Expect

I just finished my birth control pack of Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo, and im in the 7 'placebo pills' but now they gave me Ortho-Novum 7/7/7 for my pills. Are this pills interchangable, and can I start taking them like my regular Tri-Cyclen Lo? Will I have use a back up method?

Dear Claudia,

You should be able to begin taking them on the day you would have started your other pills and have no interruption in birth control protection - as long as there has been NO interruption in taking any pills on days that you were scheduled to take them.

If you want to make absolutely certain, since they are a new prescription, you can ask your doctor/pharmacist to be sure or use a back up for the first 7 days of pills.
