Caring for an Elderly Father: Nursing Home Transition & Safety

Question
i was moving back to stay with my 84 year old Father as he needed me.  I was told I could put him in a local nice nursing home for three months while I went back to my state and straighten up things so I could move back and live with him.  He was in great shape.  We guarded him and he was to have someone with him at all times when he used his walker at the nursing home.  When not using it he used a wheelchair. One day his therapist there appraoched me about him going up to another hospital for some "advanced therapy".To make a longer story short, this place put him on a platform about a foot high and let him fall on a concrete floor, then took him back to his room and left him.  It happeded at 8:30 in the morning.  Dad told me no one even checked on him until, by an act of the Lord a "company man" happened to be spot checking and Dad told him what happened.  The next day they did over $7,000 worth of mris and x-rays and send him back early to the nursing home.  they did not tell the nursing home people nor I.  First thing he said is that he could no read his Bible anymore, then he could not roll the wheelchair due to extreme pain and then could not walk when I took him home to walk down the block.  About a week later the home called me and told me they wee putting a catapres patch on him and that his blood pressure had gone "stroke level".It has been a nightmare with bp problems, pain. having to get him an electric chair and not being able to read.  I finally found out the truth and gone to pain mangement doctors, etc.  He is really upset about not being able to see.  The eyedoctor stated the fall must have done some neurological damage.  What can be done to help him be able to see again.   Is there some type of specialist in the United States that may be able to help.  I will pay anything for him to aleast have his sight back. Thank you for your consideration.

Answer
I''m so sorry that you have gone through this ordea. The only thing I can suggest is having a complete opthalmoligy exam at one of the major centers. The eye doctors will be able to determine if there is irreversable damage to your father's eyes and if there is anything that can be done. I'm sorry that I can't be of further help.
